The Martyrs, an Experiment Of The Afterlife.
Martyrs movie poster. |
Martyr meaning witness was used in the secular sphere as well as in the New Testament of the Bible. The process of bearing witness was not intended to lead to the death of the witness, although it is known from ancient writers (e.g. Josephus) and from the New Testament that witnesses often died for their testimonies. During the early Christian centuries, the term acquired the extended meaning of believers who are called to witness for their religious belief, and on account of this witness, endure suffering or death. The term, in this later sense, entered the English language as a loanword. The death of a martyr or the value attributed to it is called martyrdom.
The martyr movie itself like the meaning mentioned above is full of suffering and torture in the process of becoming the Martyr. This movie is definitely not for faint hearts or people who are scared of blood because of the torture that is being done in this movie including starvation, skinning humans alive, mutilation of themselves, and many more and the movie genre is psychological horror. A little spoiler ahead, The movie begins when a teenage girl in dirty clothes slowly walks outside from some place that appears like a dungeon. She seemed to be dazed and not knowing about her surroundings and when she reached the street she started to collapse.
She was found by a doctor nearby and received treatment there. She didn’t speak and quietly received the treatment while trying to remember what exactly happened to her.
Her name is Lucie, During treatment, she received in a facility, Lucie meets Anna, a girl who had trauma and abuse inflicted by her parents. As child abuse victims, the two immediately bond and become best friends, and thus Lucie only talks to Anna, while Anna is the middle man between Lucie and the doctor who treated them, to understand Lucie better. as time passed, they separated ways. Anna knows that Lucie is deeply traumatized that she is hallucinating about being attacked by the unknown presence and a few years later Lucie decided to take revenge on people who had done horrible things to her, kidnap her and torture her.
Afterward, the story shifted to what appeared to be a normal family, with 2 children having breakfast. And then a young woman entered the scene with a shotgun in her hands, noticed the mother and suddenly all the pain in her past came streaming down in her mind, as she grabbed the gun and started shooting everyone inside. After that, Lucie called Anna in a desperate voice, saying that she finally got revenge and already killed everyone. Anna is shocked and then decides to come and take Lucie away from there. Upon arriving at the scene that seems far worse than the horror movie, Anna tries to take Lucie out of the house but it seems the same entity that Lucie believed is trying to kill her is back so her attempt is futile. While struggling to get out of the house due to Lucie’s condition that seemed to get worse, Anna found out the mother of the house is not dead yet but fighting for her life. She is begging her not to kill her. Anna decided to let the mother go and here Anna discovered Lucie’s past is revealing as she discovered more secrets inside the house and the true identity of the mother who was torturing Lucie in the past.
Anna finds a secret passage and enters it without hesitation. She finds horrible pictures hanging on the wall and when she opens one of the doors, she finds a woman being held captive. There is some metal device around her head that is kind of stuck on her head. She is very thirsty and starved, her body is so thin and her skull is visible. Anna tries to open the device but she fails, because the device is already stuck in her skin. She then leaves her there and explores another room. And then she met with an older woman who explained all the portraits hanging from the wall and described the people in the photo, how they are still alive after being executed and how all of them was young woman like her. And so the cult thinks the martyrs should be young women for the procession to be successful. She found tapes of Lucie being tortured by the Madam and other people and can’t help but felt nauseated herself. She is then held captive too and they begin to torture her. She is being beaten and at the point of having no consciousness at all. The finishing sequence is where they skinned her alive and displayed her in front of a bunch of people, assuming all of them were rich and important people. Knowing that Anna is still alive despite all the torture she had, the old woman who appears to be the leader of the meeting is leaning closer to Anna and ask a question, she whispered it to her ear and after hearing the word that Anna said, the old woman beaming with joy and start cheering, with all the other person too. And then they called Anna the Martyrs.
In conclusion, the occult here seeks one true martyr, especially a young woman to become the martyr so they could find out what it is like in the afterlife or the situation between life and death. So far they have succeeded to find 4 martyrs as the old woman showed Anna a few pictures of what she called the martyrs and how it will be succeeded through the young woman. They have tried this experiment on so many people but Lucie is the only one who did it successfully. This experiment may be fiction but imagine if this kind of thing happened in real life, not that I doubt that these kinds of unhinged and bored rich people are not doing this in real life. Maybe they did a lot worse than this.
In real life, there is an experiment similar to this and it is done in the most horrible ways. Let’s start with the experiment that is written by Dr. Beaurieux who experimented on a prisoner that was beheaded by guillotine with the name of Henri Languille, on 28 June 1905. He stated in his report that he noticed that the head still had some movement for 5 or 6 seconds and when he called out the Languile name, the eyelids slowly lifted up for mere seconds. He also stated that The whole thing had lasted twenty-five to thirty seconds.
Another horrible experiment on humans came from none other than the nazis. They are conducting experiments in The Ravensbrück concentration camp , a camp full of women and was the largest concentration camp for women. in this camp there is various medical experiments with inhumane conduct such as euthanasia program, treating wounds with various chemical substances to prevent infections, various methods of settings and transplanting bones including amputations and also sterilization. Many of the women subjected to this experiment died.
Another experiment conducted by the Japanese during world war 2, the experiment took place in unit 731. The experiment includes vivisection on the conscious body without anesthesia and it is done on prisoners’ bodies. Almost all the horrible experiences in unit 731 are being done on a person who is still alive. The thing they have done there was inhumane and you wouldn’t wish it upon your worst enemies. It’s just horrible.
In my opinion, the martyrs’ whole point is just the curiosity of human beings about the afterlife and doing it in the most extreme way possible. is there really an afterlife? Or there isn’t? We will never know until we are the one who goes there. Anyway, once again this movie isn’t for the faint-hearted so I strongly do not recommend this to watch if you are not in good condition.
